As birthday week rolls on here at Beautiful You I couldn’t go past sharing with you all a very special email I received on the weekend. I was so humbled when I read it that I immediately responded and asked the writer if I could share it with all my readers. She said yes and I said thank you. Imagine opening your inbox to read this…
A Beautiful Email
“In the last few months of 2009, my second year of treatment for my eating disorder, I decided to throw everything I had into recovery. I decided to “bombard myself” with positivity – to drown out the horrible negative voice in my head with voices of love & kindness.
I turned my home into a haven – covering my walls with cards & letters from loved ones, encouraging me in my journey, posting up positive affirmation cards, photos, & inspiring quotes. Colour entered my world again. I loaded my iPod full of empowering & fun songs, filled with messages of self love, & ‘blared’ it often. I sung along with them. I danced.
I read books & blogs focused on self-acceptance, self-care, & self-love.
And just over 6 months later, my world is looking very different. While it might be a dark & gloomy winter outside, I know my future looks bright, & I know that I deserve it to be. Of course there have been many things have helped me to bring about these changes, but one of the things that helped give me the boost I needed, the hope & motivation to continue this journey, was finding Beautiful You.
The idea to “bombard myself with positivity”? That came to me after stumbling across your blog, where I found acceptance & hope, & found myself thinking ‘I am beautiful, I am important, & I am amazing exactly as I am right now in this moment’, & it was then that I decided to make the conscious effort to treat myself as such.
So thankyou Beautiful You, for reminding me of what my eating disorder helped me to forget, & for the support you give to me each day through you presence here, whether or not you know it 😉
Happy 1st Birthday xxoo
Jacqueline Jones
You are an inspiration to me Jacqueline. Thank you for sending me the most amazing and memorable email I have ever received. If ever I get a feeling of not being sure why I keep blogging here at Beautiful You, I will remember these incredible words you have sent me.
I know from other comments, letters and emails I get that Jacqueline is not the only person living with an eating disorder who reads Beautiful You. I hope the way that Jacqueline has surrounded herself with positivity and light will be an inspiration to you, and others, as well. I passionately believe it can make a difference to how happy, inspired and hopeful you can feel.
