Love Your Flaws

If you’re anything like us, you love your flaws. They make you who you are, and they add personality to your life. After all, who wants to be someone they’re not? Well, that’s not really who we want to be either. That’s why we’ve put together this list of five reasons why embracing your flaws is a vital part of being happy and thriving. So get ready to love all of your quirks, and don’t forget – they’re part of what makes you special!

I first heard of singer/songwriter Caitlin Crosby when a kind follower from Twitter sent me a clip of Caitlin’s fantastic song “Flawz” for my post on inspirational women’s music video clips.  If you haven’t seen the clip, you can see it here.  It’s a gorgeous watch with lots of special, everyday, unique people starring in what is essentially a body image and self esteem love fest.  What’s not to love about that?

Love Your Flaws

Learning about Caitlin’s song also led me to her website – Love Your Flawz.  I so admire Caitlin and Brie Larson for creating this site which they state is “a place to share all of your amazing, unique flaws.  Our mission is to help all of us learn to love and embrace them…imperfect is the new perfect.”

I love every part of this site.  The photo gallery is so wonderful.  It’s made up of divine snaps submitted by people stating what they love about the unique parts of their appearance and selves, including the one above.  Many of course would see things such as scars, wobbly tummy’s and braces as not being worthy of love, that, in the traditional sense, they are flaws.  Love Your Flawz clearly disagrees with that notion – as do I.

In developing positive body image and self esteem, I believe we should shoot for the stars and learn to love all of ourselves.  Not just our feet, or hair, or smile, or eyes.  But all of us.  On some days I know that can be a tall order – but it’s so worth working on as can be seen from some of the beautiful poems and emails people have submitted to the site.  These are some of my favourites – “I have some stretch marks and cellulite, and i always thought that meant i was fat. but now, with help from you guys, i look at myself in the mirror and realize i’m not perfect. but that’s the way I like it” and “We were each created differently! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US is unique and lovely” and “You are who you are. You should love yourself no matter what shape or size you are in. You are awesome. You are beautiful. You are YOU. Don’t ever forget that!”  Could things be better written by a high paid author?  Possibly not.

If you are inspired by Love Your Flawz as much as I am – why not submit your own photo, poem and inspiring quote.  You can tell the world about how you are embracing your flaws here.  The site and premise has inspired me to think more kindly and embrace my…stretch marks.  They’ve been with me since I was about 13 years old and I suddenly grew C cups seemingly overnight.  I think it’s about time!

What “flaw” that is a unique part of you do you think it is time to embrace?

It’s time to cut the negative talk about yourself. Instead, be open to your mistakes and embrace them. Loving your flaws means being honest with yourself and not masking who you are behind them. By doing this, you will start feeling more confident in life and gradually build up a new layer of confidence that was missing earlier on in life.

The most potent force in the universe is love. How do you love your flaws?

1 Celebrate your uniqueness.
2 Relate to others by drawing on your flaws.

8 Reframe your unfavourable ideas.

What does it mean when someone loves your flaws?

Love your defects, and you’ll either be able to make the kinds of adjustments you really desire (from an honest place of intention) or you’ll be able to learn to love and accept yourself regardless of whether any changes occur.
